🧠 5 QUESTIONS WE, AND OUR MEMBERS, EXPLORED LAST MONTH

1.  How can you make your meeting more impactful?

Meetings, meetings, meetings. So this recent discussion with our members was a good reminder of the intent and focus required to make them impactful and successful.

Research tells us there is room for improvement according to a Harvard Business Review report:

    • 71 % of senior managers believe meetings are inefficient.
    • 40% of employees consider unproductive meetings to be the highest cost to their organisations.
    • 50% of all meeting time is found to be effective, well used and engaging. This percentage is lower for remote meetings.

2.  What are some current challenges surrounding performance analysis? (Part 2)

In last month’s Digest, we touched on some of the learnings and reflections from part one of our series of learning looking at Advances in Performance Analysis.

The aim of session two was to explore these challenges in more detail – below are some reflections from a couple of elite environments, including a team from the Olympic and Paralympic world and a club from the Premier League.

    • Integration of data & connecting data – Do not underestimate the importance of clear strategy as part of your performance planning. Know what needs collating and why within the team.
    • Data collection – Ask quality questions: why are we creating the data, what is its purpose, what decisions is it informing, particularly in the coaching process? Do this periodically and continue to plan, do and review.
    • Communication of data – Consider working closely with your psychology team to help elevate understanding of self and others. If we can better understand the people we work with, it will support how we get the best out of each other.
    • Buy-in – Relationships are key. For key stakeholders and leadership, invite them into your world and shadow them. When they immerse themselves to better understand the process you’ll find that it can quickly lead to them becoming a voice for you in wider conversations.

3.  How can leaders develop continuous learners?

You can help members of your team upskill, reskill, and adapt to change by applying four key strategies:

    • Link purpose to training
    • Create a learning-rich work environment
    • Asking meta-learning questions
    • Nurturing a learning team

4.  How can teams go from good to great through interdisciplinarity?

It’s more than just assembling experts; it’s about creating an environment where diverse knowledge can flow, interact, and coalesce into something far greater than the sum of its parts. Here’s ‘How you Can Master the Secrets of Success’.

5.  Are you feeling worn down, checked out, or bitter about work?

Here’s how to recover from burnout and regain a sense of purpose. Plus ‘How to Manage — and Avoid — Mental Fatigue’.
